Avantt Font Family is characterized by its fresh, clean geometry and modern feel. Avantt was initially created as a bespoke typeface for the signage and brand at Bubenská 1, a newly reconstructed office building in Prague. Architects, Adolf Benš and Josef Kříž, designed this building in a functionalist style between 1927 and 1935.
This typeface takes inspiration from architectural principles and historical sources, such as the works of Ladislav Sutnar, Adolf Loos, and the Bauhaus movement. Avantt, the new retail version, slightly differs from the bespoke original, but still has the essential character.
The unique construction of several glyphs were influenced by the look of stairway bannisters and railings. The OpenType feature, ‘Titling Alternates’, includes selected uppercase letters in narrower widths, and brings visual variety into headlines and texts.
