Lucida Console Font is one of the families of fonts that was developed by Charles Bigelow and Kris Holmes in the year 1984 and became available for use since that year. Its goal is to be very usable when printed at a smaller size or displayed at a lower quality; that is why its name is derived from the word “lucid” which means clear or easy to read.
There are several types of Lucida, it has serif (Fax and Bright) and those that do not have Serif (Sans, Sans Unicode Grande Sans Typewriter and Sans Typewriter) and script styles (Blackletter Calligraphy Handwriting) that may also come with other programs like the Microsoft Office.
Bigelow & Holmes and the now defunct TeX vendor Y&Y expanded the Lucida font family with a complete set of TeX mathematical symbols; for this reason, Lucida is one of the few fonts that support both text and mathematical TeX typesetting. Lucida fonts can be bought for commercial use from TUG Store and from the creators’ website; the fonts are relatively frequently updated.
