Racing Sans One Font typefaces started coming with special characteristics such as – lowercase letters that have been designed in such a manner that they give an enforced thin/thick differentiation – was it because of the influence of older serif typefaces popular at the time? Around one hundred years before Helvetica and Univers were developed, that is.
However, when this genre first came into the mainstream fashion was to create monoline sans with little difference in contrast; and in today’s benchmarks, it is even more of rarity and not so easily achievable with many examples of success being rare.
At first sight, three fonts immediately caught our eye while searching for older specimens: These fonts include Doric Italic of the American Kind Founders (1897), Taylor Gothic of the same founders, Charter Oak of Keystone Variety Foundry of Philadelphia (1906).
Talking about Racing Sans, one can identify it as an existing high contrast sans font, which pays homage to the somewhat neglected area of racing motorsport.
