Courier New Font

Courier New Font is a monospaced slab-serif typeface developed by Howard “Bud” Kettler (1919-1999). Initially designed for IBM typewriters, Courier New has since been adopted for use as a font on computers and can now be found on most desktop PCs. As BM has not registered the brand name Courier, its design and name have become public property.

According to some reports, IBM’s earlier Selectric typewriters were designed with input from Adrian Frutiger; however, Paul Shaw asserts there may have been conflict in translating Frutiger’s version for Selectric into his Univers typeface; sources disagree as to when exactly this happened – either 1955 or 1956 is given as possible dates of release for these typefaces.
