Utilizing various devices for typesetting such as dry transfer typewriters, photo copiers and layouts with shooting and paste-up on film results of printing was not as precise and accurate as they are now.
Viewing old prints makes it hard not to notice how characters from films that were over or underexposed have distinctive looks that we no longer associate with ideality.
